The Rover’s Remote Control System 🎮
The term Datalink refers to the process of transmitting data from the controller to the Rover.
Depending on the application, this can be done wirelessly or via a wired connection. In our case, we use wireless transmission, but a wired setup is also possible for specific applications.
📡 Why ExpressLRS?
Due to the massive adoption of FPV drones, which primarily use the ExpressLRS protocol, I decided to integrate the same system into the Rover.
This choice provides several advantages:
✅ Ease of use – Many users already own ExpressLRS-compatible controllers, so they can use them directly with the Rover!
✅ Compatibility with existing hardware – If you already have an FPV drone, chances are that your controller is fully compatible with the Rover.
✅ Large community support – Since ExpressLRS is widely used, there’s extensive support and frequent updates available.
So, if you’re a drone enthusiast, rest assured that your current FPV controller can also control the Rover! 🚀
🕹️ The Controller & Control Channels
The Rover’s controller includes:
🔸 Two gimbal sticks for primary movement controls.
🔸 Multiple buttons & switches for additional features.
🔸 Support for up to 16 control channels – meaning you can program up to 16 different commands for the Rover!
🛠️ Basic Functions:
✔️ Forward & Reverse 🚗
✔️ Left & Right Turns 🔄
The remaining 14 channels can be assigned to any function you desire, such as:
✔️ Turning lights on/off 💡
✔️ Activating a horn 📢
✔️ Adjusting Rover settings ⚙️
✔️ Controlling extra features like a robotic gripper or sensors 📡
Your options are limitless – You define the functions! 💯
📺 EdgeTX – The "Operating System" of the Controller
The controllers we use run EdgeTX, a full-featured firmware that:
🔹 Provides access to settings & configurations
🔹 Allows real-time adjustments via the controller’s display
🔹 Enables customization for optimal Rover performance
Think of EdgeTX as the Windows or MacOS for your controller!
This means you can adjust settings on the fly during a battle or mission, ensuring optimal response from your Rover! 🏎️
📡 The Receiver & Control Tower
The ExpressLRS receiver is installed inside the Rover’s Control Tower. The Control Tower processes incoming signals and converts them into actions and movements for the vehicle.
The Control Tower outputs can be:
✅ On/Off switches via transistor circuits for activating components 🔘
✅ PWM outputs for controlling motors & servos ⚙️
✅ Data transfer & sensor integration for advanced applications 📊
Essentially, any function can be controlled from your controller – from motors, LEDs, and servos to speakers or even cameras! 🎶📹
📊 Telemetry & Real-Time Data Transmission
The system allows bi-directional communication, meaning that data can be sent from the Rover back to the controller, providing crucial information such as:
📍 Distance from the operator
🔋 Battery level
🌡️ Temperature & barometric pressure
🧭 GPS coordinates & compass orientation
📊 Any other sensor data you wish to integrate!
This enables full control over the Rover, regardless of the environment or mission requirements!
🚀 Summary: Full Control at Your Fingertips!
With ExpressLRS and EdgeTX, you have access to a powerful remote control system that can be customized for any need!
🔹 Fast & reliable wireless control
🔹 Programmable multi-function system
🔹 Real-time telemetry & data feedback
All you need to do is tell me about your project, and we’ll customize the Rover to perfectly fit your needs! 💡🔥
