🔍 Measuring Device

USB Tester: The Smartest Little Multimeter!

For this project, we will use a USB Tester as our measuring device. This simple but powerful tool allows us to collect all the necessary data for completing the experimental process forms and drawing useful conclusions.

You don’t need to fully understand all the values right away—we’ll analyze them after the experiment. For now, just focus on recognizing them!

📏 What is the USB Tester & How Do We Read It?

The USB Tester is a small but very smart multimeter, allowing us to measure four different values:

1️⃣ 📡 Volt (V) – The "Speed" of Electrons

  • Displayed top left on the screen.
  • Uses the V symbol and has two decimal places.
  • Measures voltage, which represents how fast the electrons travel through the charging cable.

2️⃣ ⚡ Ampere (A) – The "Volume" of Electrons

  • Displayed bottom left on the screen.
  • Uses the A symbol and also has two decimal places.
  • Measures how many electrons are passing through the cable during charging.

3️⃣ ⏳ Charging Time – How Long the Process Takes

  • Displayed top right on the screen.
  • Acts as a timer that keeps counting as long as the phone is consuming power.
  • Stops when the charging process is complete.
  • Helps us calculate the total energy transferred through the cable.

4️⃣ 🔋 Battery Capacity – How Much Energy Passed

  • Displayed bottom right on the screen.
  • Uses the mAh symbol (milliampere-hour).
  • Important: This value does NOT represent the actual battery capacity but rather the total energy transferred through the USB Tester.

⚙️ What About Watts (Power)?

Watts (W) represent the actual charging power of the phone—not the charger’s power!

📌 How to calculate Watts?
👉 Volt (V) x Ampere (A) = Watt (W)

🔄 Resetting & Restarting the USB Tester

  • On top of the device, there is a reset button.
  • Holding it for 10+ seconds will:
    • Reset the charging time.
    • Clear the recorded milliampere value (mAh).
  • This allows you to restart the experiment from the beginning.

🛠️ Why Did We Choose a USB Tester?

We didn’t choose the USB Tester by accident! It’s the perfect tool for beginners learning to measure electricity because:

It measures the two most important values we need (Voltage & Amperage) just like a regular multimeter.
It automatically records charging time – something a normal multimeter doesn’t do.
It keeps track of the total energy that passed through the circuit (mAh).
No need to worry about wiring mistakesit’s foolproof!
Completely safeit won’t burn out, and kids can’t make dangerous measurements.

📣 Final Thoughts – A Small but Smart Multimeter!

The USB Tester is essentially a mini multimeter, but much more user-friendly, safe, and practical than a traditional one.

📌 In future projects, we’ll explore how to use a traditional multimeter.
📌 For now, focus on this project, and later, we’ll move on to more advanced measurements!

Are you ready? Grab the USB Tester and let’s start experimenting! 🚀
