🎨 Multicolor Printing with AMS (Automatic Material System)

🎨 Multicolor Printing with AMS (Automatic Material System)

When the AMS (Automatic Material System) is connected to the 3D printer, we can:
Automatically switch filaments
Print different colors on the same layer!

👉 This allows us to create stunning multicolor models and complex designs that would otherwise be impossible to achieve!

🔹 Multicolor Printing Process

1️⃣ Selecting Filament & Colors

  • In the "Filament" tab, choose the colors and materials you want to use.
  • ⚠️ You CANNOT mix different material types! (e.g., PLA & ABS or PLA & PETG).
  • 🔹 Different materials can only be used for supports (e.g., PLA + PVA).

2️⃣ Assigning Colors to Objects

  • In the "Object" tab, select your object.
  • Next to each part, choose the color you want based on the filaments you added earlier.
  • The model in the slicer will update visually, showing exactly how it will print!

⚠️ Ensuring the Correct Print File (Avoiding Color Mistakes)

🔹 If you send the print directly from your computer to the printer, color mistakes may occur!
Solution:
✔️ Prepare the print on your computer
✔️ Send the file to the printer (without starting the print)
✔️ Start the print directly from the printer – This ensures the colors are assigned correctly!

🔹 If Colors Are Mixed Up…

📌 If the printer blends incorrect colors, you may need to increase the "Flushing Volume".
🔹 Flushing Volume determines how much filament is purged when changing colors, ensuring the nozzle is clean before printing the next layer.
🔹 You can adjust this in the Filament settings.

🏗️ Prime Tower – Do You Need It?

📌 What is the Prime Tower?
✅ A small printed tower where the printer purges filament before switching colors.
✅ It improves color transitions by preventing color contamination.

🔸 When You DO NOT Need a Prime Tower:

✔️ If you are making only one color change per layer.
✔️ Example: A blue nameplate with white letters – since the color change happens between layers, no Prime Tower is needed.

🔹 When a Prime Tower is REQUIRED:

✔️ If you are changing multiple colors within the same layer.
✔️ Example: A model with colorful details on every layer – the printer must clean the nozzle after each color change.

🔹 There, we prepare various multicolor models, organize components correctly, and achieve the best possible results!

🎯 Final Thoughts

If you have AMS, use it to create amazing multicolor prints!
Ensure you are using compatible materials and correct flushing settings!
To avoid color mismatches, start the print from the printer, not the computer!
Use a Prime Tower when switching colors within the same layer!

🚀 Now we’re ready to move on to multicolor printing WITHOUT AMS! 🎨🖨️
